Leaders and Company Board Members of Great Eastern Takaful

Mr. Lian Wee Cheow (“Mr Lian”) was appointed to the Board of Directors (“Board”) of Great Eastern Takaful Berhad (the “Company”) on 8 August 2026 as Chairman and Independent Non-Executive Director. Mr. Lian is also the Chairman of Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia) Berhad and Great Eastern General Insurance (Malaysia) Berhad.

Mr. Lian is an Independent Non-Executive Director of Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited (OCBC Ltd) and OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad. He is also the Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Singapore International Foundation, of which the Patron is the President of Singapore.

Prior to OCBC, Mr. Lian was a Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC). He has over 38 years of experience in both assurance and advisory work at PwC, serving financial institutional clients in the region. He has worked in Australia and the UK, besides Singapore. At PwC, Mr. Lian was Chairman of the Singapore Governance Board and a Member of the prestigious 12-member Board of Partners of the Combined China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan Firms. Mr. Lian looked after Partner Affairs at PwC, which covered admission, performance evaluation, remuneration, disciplinary matters and retirement of partners. Mr. Lian was also Chairman of the Risk and Quality Committee of PwC's Financial Services Group.

Outside of PwC, Mr. Lian was Chairman of the Advisory Panel to the School of Accountancy at the Singapore University of Social Science, Chairman of the Banking and Finance Committee of the Singapore Institute of Chartered Accountants, Chairman of Anderson Secondary School Board and Member of Singapore's Accounting and Regulatory Authority Ethics and Disciplinary Board.

Mr. Lian was awarded the Public Service Medal by the President of Singapore in 2021. Mr. Lian is a Fellow Chartered Accountant of Singapore as well as that of Australia and New Zealand. Mr. Lian also attended leadership programmes at Harvard Business School and INSEAD.

YBhg. Major General Dato' Zulkiflee bin Mazlan (Rtd) (“YBhg. Major General Dato' Zulkiflee”) was appointed to the Company’s Board as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director on 29 April 2016. He is a representative of Koperasi Angkatan Tentera Malaysia Berhad.

YBhg. Major General Dato' Zulkiflee is currently a member of the Board Nominations & Remuneration Committee of the Company.

YBhg. Major General Dato' Zulkiflee had served distinguishably in the Malaysian Army Forces and held numerous commands and staff appointments at the Ministry of Defence. He had served on the Board of Yayasan Veteran Angkatan Tentera Malaysia and Perbadanan Hal Ehwal Bekas Tentera. He was the Chairman of Koperasi Angkatan Tentera Malaysia Berhad from June 2015 to June 2022.

YBhg. Major General Dato' Zulkiflee was previously the Chairman of Affin Hwang Investment Bank Berhad, Chairman of Affin Hwang Trustee Berhad and a Director of Affin Hwang Asset Management Berhad.

He presently sits on the Board of Aiiman Asset Management Sdn Bhd as Director and Chairman.

YBhg. Major General Dato' Zulkiflee holds a Bachelor of Law (LL.B) from University Teknologi MARA in 1989. He also holds a Master of Science, National Security Strategy from National Defense University Fort McNair, Washington D.C.

YBhg. Dato' Albert Yeoh Beow Tit (“YBhg Dato' Albert Yeoh”) was appointed to the Company’s Board on 1 January 2020 as an Independent Non-Executive Director.

YBhg. Dato' Albert Yeoh is currently the Chairman and member of the Board Audit Committee, Board Nominations & Remuneration Committee and Governance Committee of the Company.

YBhg. Dato' Albert Yeoh started his career in the financial industry particularly in the banking sector and has held various senior management positions in Citibank Berhad, the last being the Director of Corporate Banking till February 1996. He was the Chief Executive Officer of OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad, a position which he held until his retirement in 2008.

He was formerly the Director of Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia) Berhad and Great Eastern General Insurance (Malaysia) Berhad. He was also the Director in several companies, namely Alliance Investment Bank Berhad, Danajamin Nasional Bhd, BOS Wealth Management Malaysia Berhad, Cagamas MBS Berhad and Cagamas SRP Berhad.

YBhg. Dato' Albert Yeoh holds a Bachelor of Economics (Double Major in Economics and Operations Research) from Monash University, Australia and a Master of Science in Management from University of Salford, England. He was conferred Fellow to the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (formerly known as Institute of Bankers Malaysia) by the Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia in April 2022.

YBhg. Professor Dato’ Dr Wan Sabri bin Wan Yusof (“YBhg. Professor Dato’ Dr Wan Sabri”) was appointed to the Company’s Board on 10 June 2022 as an Independent Non-Executive Director.

YBhg. Professor Dato’ Dr Wan Sabri is currently a member of the Board Audit Committee, Board Nominations & Remuneration Committee and Malaysia Sustainability Council of the Company.

YBhg. Professor Dato’ Dr Wan Sabri had served as Shariah Committee member of Great Eastern Takaful Berhad from 2010 to 2021. Concurrently he served as Shariah Committee at OCBC Al Amin Berhad. Prior to 2010 he served as Shariah Committee at Southern Bank and CIMB Islamic Bank.

He is currently the Vice Chancellor for Universiti Sultan Azlan Shah ("USAS") and a Director of Yayasan Al Ammar.

YBhg. Professor Dato’ Dr Wan Sabri holds a Ph.D. and a Master of Arts from Temple University, USA (specialising in Islamic Thought and Comparative Religion). He further holds a Master’s degree in Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage (IRKH) (specialising in Tafsir) and a Bachelor of (Economic) Islamic Economics from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He has published numerous articles and books among others monograph on prominent Muslim scholars in this region, Issue in Islamic Thought and Tafsir (Quranic exegesis).

Mr. Tong Hon Keong (“Mr. Tong”) was appointed to the Company’s Board on 7 August 2023 as an Independent Non-Executive Director. Presently, he is also an Independent Non-Executive Director of Great Eastern General Insurance (Malaysia) Berhad and the Chairman and Independent Director of BOS Wealth Management Malaysia Berhad.

Mr. Tong is currently the Chairman of the Board Risk Management Committee and a member of the Board Nomination and Remuneration Committee of the Company.

Mr. Tong built his career at Maybank over a span of more than 30 years, where he led various functional areas, including Planning, Information Systems, Central Operations and Management Information Services. He served as Senior Executive Vice President of Strategy and Transformation, for Business Banking/SME Banking from 2010 to 2013.

Mr. Tong was previously a Director of OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad where he served as the Chairman of the Risk Management Committee and Member of the Board Audit Committee. He was also a Director of OCBC Al-Amin Bank Berhad.

Mr. Tong holds a Bachelor of Economics (Hons) Degree from the University of Malaya. He is an alumnus of the Advanced Management Program at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, USA.

YBhg. Datin Arlina binti Ariff (“YBhg. Datin Arlina”) was appointed to the Company’s Board on 29 April 2024 as an Independent Non-Executive Director. She is currently an Independent Non-Executive Director of Agrobank (Malaysia) Berhad and PRG Holdings Berhad.

YBhg. Datin Arlina is currently a member of the Board Risk Management Committee, Governance Committee and Malaysia Sustainability Council of the Company.

YBhg. Datin Arlina has over 30 years of experience in Bank Negara Malaysia where she served in various capacities. She had previously served as the Director of the Financial Inclusion Department.

YBhg. Datin Arlina holds a Masters in Islamic Finance Practice from INCEIF University. Previously, she obtained a Masters of Science in Quantitative Development Economics and Post-Graduate Diploma in Quantitative Development Economics from the University of Warwick in Coventry, England. She graduated with Honours from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada with a Bachelor’s Degree In Economics.

YBhg. Lieutenant General Dato' Sri Mohd Zakaria bin Haji Yadi (Rtd) (“YBhg. Lieutenant General Dato' Sri Mohd Zakaria”) was appointed to the Company’s Board on 6 May 2025 as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director. He is a representative of Koperasi Angkatan Tentera Malaysia Berhad.

YBhg. Lieutenant General Dato' Sri Mohd Zakaria is currently a member of the Board Risk Management Committee of the Company.

YBhg. Lieutenant General Dato' Sri Mohd Zakaria retired from the Malaysian Armed Forces in June 2023 after more than 42 years of distinguished service. He last served as Chief of Staff at the Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters from November 2020 to June 2023, where he was responsible for overseeing tri-services planning and the execution of strategic defence policies. Prior to that, he served as a Commander of the Army Field Command East (Sarawak and Sabah), where he was responsible for operational readiness, training, administration, and logistics. Throughout his military career, YBhg. Lieutenant General Dato' Sri Mohd Zakaria held various senior command and staff positions, including heading the Labuan High-Value Target Committee. His leadership has contributed significantly to national defence planning and policy formulation at the highest level.

YBhg. Lieutenant General Dato' Sri Mohd Zakaria holds a Master's degree in Science in Defence Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School (USA), a Master's degree in Laws (LL.M), and a Diploma in Strategic and Defence Studies from the University of Malaya, and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University Teknologi MARA (UiTM). He also attended the National Defence College and Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) in the United Kingdom.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Naim Omar was appointed as a Shariah Committee Member of Great Eastern Takaful Berhad on 7 June 2022 and was appointed as Shariah Committee Chairman on 13 December 2025.

He obtained his degree in Shariah from Al- Azhar University in 1992 and subsequently completed his Master’s Degree in Shariah from Cairo University in 1999. He was later conferred a PhD in Islamic Law by the University of Wales, United Kingdom in 2006.

At present, Asst. Prof. Dr. Naim is a lecturer at the Department of Islamic Law, Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws at the International Islamic University Malaysia. He teaches several subjects including Islamic Law of Transaction, Islamic Legal Maxim and Islamic Jurisprudence.

He had previously served as a Shariah Committee member in the Islamic Banking and takaful sectors such as OCBC Al-Amin, Takaful Ikhlas and MNRB. Currently, he also serves as Shariah Committee member of Alliance Islamic Bank. He has presented numerous papers at conferences and has published various articles in relation to Islamic Transaction Law, Islamic Wealth Management and Islamic Law of Contract.

Dr. Muhammad Pisol Mohd @ Mat Isa has been appointed as a Shariah Committee Member of Great Eastern Takaful Berhad since 13 December 2022. He is an ASAS Certified Shariah Advisor (CSA) and holds a PhD in Islamic Finance from University of Malaya in 2012. Prior to this, he graduated with a Master’s Degree in Usuluddin (Islamic Political Thought) from University of Malaya in 2001 and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Usuluddin (Theology and Philosophy) from Al-Azhar University in 1996.

Dr. Muhammad Pisol currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at Open University Malaysia (OUM). He had more than 20 years’ experience as a university lecturer, teaching various courses including supervising Master and PhD students in the courses of Islamic Economics, Microfinance, and Islamic Finance.

Previously, Dr. Muhammad Pisol was a Shariah Committee Member at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Malaysia Berhad from 2014 to 2022. Currently, he has been serving as Shariah Committee Member of United Oversea Bank Berhad (OUB) since November 2023 and as a Shariah Advisor for GA Skylight Berhad (SKYLIGHT GROUP) since March 2025. He is also a registered Shariah Advisor with Securities Commission since 2019.

His areas of interest include Islamic Finance, Fiqh Al-Muamalat, Islamic Economics and Islamic Microfinance. He is also actively involved in research and publication.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurul Aini Muhamed was appointed as Shariah Committee of Great Eastern Takaful Berhad on 13 December 2022. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Shariah Management from University of Malaya in 2001. She also obtained Master of Business Administration from University Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2003 and Master of Islamic Finance Practice from INCEIF in 2020. She was then awarded a PhD in Business Management from University of South Australia in 2009.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurul Aini is currently serves as Associate Professor in Muamalat and Economy Faculty, Islamic Science University of Malaysia (USIM). She also has been serving as Panel Shariah Committee at the same institution since 2023. As an academician, her area of expertise are Islamic Banking and Finance, Islamic Transaction Law, Halal Management and Governance. She actively conducts research, present papers and training on Shariah and Islamic finance. She also had published numerous articles on contemporary issues in Islamic Finance.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurul Aini was previously a Shariah Committee Member at Hong Leong Islamic Bank, Hong Leong MSIG Takaful, and BNP Paribas Malaysia Berhad.. She also a member of Malaysian Muamalat Association (MMA), Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance (ASAS), and International Council of Islamic Finance Educators (ICIFE).

En. Mohd Fadhly Md. Yusoff was appointed as Shariah Committee of Great Eastern Takaful Berhad on 1 July 2023.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Shariah (Honour Class 1), University of Malaya in 1995. Currently, he runs his own business and also serves as an independent Shariah Advisor and consultant. In addition, he also serves as Shariah Committee Member of AmBank Islamic Berhad and Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad. Prior to this, he was a Manager of Islamic Capital Market Department at the Securities Commission Malaysia. He managed, supervised and monitor the Shariah compliance requirement on product structures in relation to the submissions or issuance of Shariah Compliant securities.

En. Mohd Fadhly also involves in undertaking the research and development activities in relation to Shariah-compliant Islamic Capital Market products and securities. He was previously a Shariah Committee member of Sun Life Malaysia Takaful Berhad. He is also a registered member of Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance (ASA).

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Rizal Muwazir @ Mukhazir was appointed as a Shariah Committee member of Great Eastern Takaful Berhad on 1 June 2025. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Shariah from University of Malaya in 2003, a Master’s Degree of Business Administration from University Malaya in 2006 and a PhD in Accounting & Finance from Cardiff University in 2012. In addition, he also obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Science Research Methods from Cardiff University in 2007.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Rizal currently serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Shariah and Management at University of Malaya. He teaches a variety of subjects including Fundamental of Accounting, Islamic Banking and Finance Practices, Islamic Corporate Governance, Islamic Accounting, Auditing for Islamic Business Institutions and Muamalat Management Research Methodology. He is actively involved in research, regularly presents academic papers and conducts training in the areas of Shariah and Islamic Finance.

Currently, he also serves as Shariah Committee Member of OCBC Al-Amin. Throughout his academic career, he has received several recognitions, including the Excellence of Service Award and the Certificate of Excellent Service from University of Malaya.

Prof. Dr. Azman Mohd Noor was appointed as a Shariah Committee Member of Great Eastern Takaful Berhad on 16 April 2026.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Law, obtained in 1997 from the Islamic University of Madinah, Saudi Arabia. He subsequently earned a Master’s degree in Islamic Criminal Law in 2000 from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, and a Master’s degree in Muamalat (Islamic Law of Transactions) in 2001 from the International Islamic University of Malaysia. He was later conferred a PhD in Islamic Law in 2005 by the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Prof. Dr. Azman currently serves as a Professor and Senior Lecturer at the International Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance, International Islamic University Malaysia. He has been lecturing in Islamic Jurisprudence and Islamic Finance at the same institute since 2005.

His areas of interest include Islamic Law of Transactions, Islamic Banking and Capital Markets, Takaful and Retakaful, Waqf, and Zakat management and calculation. He has supervised Master’s and PhD students in the fields of Islamic Jurisprudence, Islamic Banking, and Islamic Capital Markets at the Department of Fiqh and the Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance, International Islamic University Malaysia, since 2006.

Previously, he served as a Shariah Committee member in the Islamic banking and takaful operators such as Al Rajhi Bank, Bank Rakyat, AmMetLife Takaful Berhad, Etiqa Family Takaful Berhad, and MNRB Retakaful. He currently also serves as a Shariah Committee member of Kuwait Finance House Malaysia.

Jasveen joined Great Eastern Takaful in 2014 from Great Eastern Life Malaysia (GELM) to head and rebuild the valuation team. In 2016, she became the Appointed Actuary and was responsible for the management of the actuarial function. Jasveen later assumed the role as Chief Financial Officer on 15 May 2018 and currently provides a leadership position to Finance, Strategic Management and Pricing teams with respective heads of these functions reporting directly to her. Jasveen has vast experience under her belt. She was attached to KPMG (UK) Limited for more than 4 years prior to joining GELM's Actuarial team in both Pricing and Valuation.

Jasveen holds a BSc (1st Class Honours) in Actuarial Science from London School of Economics. She is also a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. Prior to joining Great Eastern, she had worked with KPMG LLP in United Kingdom as Consultant, Investment Advisory Team, Pensions.

Charmaine Kee Sze Teng was appointed as our Chief Operations Officer, effective 14 March 2025 and will be responsible for driving our operational strategies, ensuring we continue to optimise efficiency, performance, and growth while maintaining regulatory compliance, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders, and leveraging her expertise to drive business outcomes.

Charmaine brings over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry and possesses the breadth and depth of understanding in Life Insurance and Takaful Operations, Customer Service and Quality Management, Business Strategy and Project Management. In her last assignment as the Head of Operations and Customer Service, she led a team of 280 staff handling life assurance, medical, and group business operations.

She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Management Studies from University of South Alabama.

Raja Mazlena was recently appointed as the Head of Legal, Secretarial and Shariah of Great Eastern Takaful in April 2019. She was previously the Senior Vice President (“SVP”) of Company Secretariat, Legal and Corporate Services with Great Eastern Life Assurance (Malaysia) Berhad (“GELM”) for eight (8) years before joining a non-profit organization creative center that supports child creativity.

She holds a Bachelor Degree in Law from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

Syuhaib Ithnin assumes the leadership role as Division Head, Corporate Takaful Business and Group B40 effective 1 September 2025. He is responsible for driving the Takaful Group and Group B40 business segments, ensuring the Company meets its production targets and expands its distribution channels. His role includes strengthening the group business portfolio by identifying and assessing new business opportunities, as well as developing and executing strategic plans to support sustainable growth.

Syuhaib holds a Master’s Degree in Islamic Finance from International Centre of Islamic Finance Education (INCEIF) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Additionally, he is also a registered Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Islamic Financial Planner (IFP) with Financial Planning Association Malaysia (FPAM) and a Chartered Islamic Finance Professional (CIFP).

Razali heads the Human Capital function which manages the whole spectrum of Human Capital from recruitment, compensation and benefits to training and development.

Razali holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from RMIT University and is an active member of both the Association of Insurance Employers (AIE) and the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF).

Rashida was appointed as the Head of Marketing since September 2024 leading the brand, marketing and product teams. She oversees the execution of marketing strategies and product implementation.

Prior to joining Great Eastern Takaful, she held leadership positions at several insurance Companies such as Prudential Assurance Malaysia Berhad and AIA Public Takaful
Berhad. Her experience includes insurance product development across distribution channels ranging from traditional insurance, investment-linked insurance, and takaful.

Rashida holds a Master’s Degree in Actuarial Science from Heriot-Watt University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science and Statistics from Purdue University.

Say Yen was appointed as our Appointed Actuary with effect from 24 February 2025. He brings with him 15 years of actuarial valuation experience in both Life Insurance and Takaful across Malaysia and the UK. Say Yen graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics with Actuarial Science from the University of Southampton, UK and attained his Fellowship of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in 2014.
