Great Eastern Takaful Berhad (GETB) welcomed students to the new school term by organising the GET Back to School Programme 2025 for the students of SK Setiawangsa. This initiative, which is now in its second year under Great Eastern Takaful’s CSR pillar, GET-Pintar, aimed to support 100 students from low-income community segment by providing them with equal access to essential school supplies.

As part of its commitment to helping those in need, Great Eastern Takaful provided necessary school supplies such as school bags, water bottles, food containers, pencil cases with stationaries, and RM100 worth of Pustaka Rakyat book vouchers. Additionally, packed foods were given to the students after the handover ceremony.

In addition to the school essentials handover ceremony, Great Eastern Takaful took this opportunity to promote sustainability and environmental awareness through its GET-Green flagship programme, the GETB Upcycling Project. Students took part in an engaging environmental awareness briefing and quizzes, as well as being introduced to the 2-in-1 Upcycling Machine, which transforms plastic waste into useful items like hair combs, rulers, bag clips and more.

By empowering young individuals with knowledge and skills, GETB strives to nurture a generation that values both education and environmental.

Fostering Hope: Great Eastern Takaful Embraces Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

In honour of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, which is celebrated annually in September to raise awareness about childhood cancer and the challenges faced by young patients and their families, Great Eastern Takaful, through its GET-Pintar initiative, once again extended its support to 60 courageous children from Kumpulan Ibu Bapa dan Sokongan Anak-anak Kanser (KIDS), by funding their educational trip to Putrajaya.

Various programmes were conducted, including a visit to the Nasyrul Quran centre, where the children had the opportunity to witness the detailed process of Quran production. The day ended with a relaxing cruise on Putrajaya Lake, where the children and their families enjoyed the scenic views, creating meaningful memories together.

Great Eastern Takaful continues to strengthen its commitment to create a positive impact in the community and supporting those in need. Furthermore, the company hopes that this programme brings joy and smiles to the faces of these courageous children, lifting their spirits as they navigate through life's challenges.

Great Eastern Takaful Organised Back to School Programme

Great Eastern Takaful had successfully organised the Back to School programme for the students of SK Taman Kosas, Ampang on 15th March 2024. With a commitment to helping those in need, we embarked on this initiative to support 100 unfortunate students by providing essential school supplies such as school uniforms, shoes, headscarves, and school bags.

Education is the foundation of a brighter future and we believe that every child deserves access to quality education regardless their living condition. Through our Back to School programme, we aim to alleviate the financial burden of the lower income families as well as to ensure that the students have the necessary resources to excel academically.

Staying true to our mission to help people those in need, Great Eastern Takaful believes that education is a fundamental right for all children. With this initiative, we aspire to Reach for Great and make a meaningful difference in the lives of these students, empowering them to unlock their full potential and pursue their dreams.

Stories fit for a princess

The children of Kg Orang Asli Sg Gabong got a royal treat when Duli Yang Maha Mulia Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim graced a story-telling competition held at  Pusat Kreatif Kanak-Kanak Tuanku Bainun on 7 September, 2019.

Some 100 guests made up of the kids’ family members and Great Eastern Takaful staff were also present at the Story Telling Competition, in which 11 children aged between 8 and 16 from the Orang Asli community participated.

Also present was our esteemed panel of judges – Yayasan Hasanah head of education and scholarships Dr Nur Anuar Abdul Muthalib, New Straits Times news editor Faridul Anwar Farinordin and GETB head of brand and marketing communications Tengku Sheila Tengku Azib.

The winner of the story telling for the primary category was little Nur Syazwanis Safia binti Abdul Rahman, 8 from SK Sulaiman who narrated with full confidence and expression, the story titled “Bangau menipu Ikan”.

Meanwhile, 14 year old Haslinna a/p Zaili from SMK Khai Mun was declared the winner in the secondary school category for her rendition of “Semut dan Merpati”.

At the end of the story-telling competition, the women folk attended an empowerment workshop, where they were taught to sew embroidery onto jute bags. The long term plan of this programme is to help women of Kg Orang Asli Sg Gabong make some extra pocket money through this potential business opportunity.
